Re: Childminder

All,

I'm pulling my hair out on this.  I need to get childcare organised for early next year & am finding it impossible to find childminders.  Does anyone have any contacts for any childminders in the Balbriggan area?

TIA
Anacou

Try these links:

http://www.rollercoaster.ie/local_childcare/mc.asp?ID=67196&G=13&forumdb=8

http://www.greataupair.com/fastfind.cfm/searchType/Advanced/countryList/68/aupairShortStay/1/aupairStartDate/0/pref/0

Or ring the fingal childcare committee and ask them do they have a list?

Hi did you have no luck with Una Caffrey then?
The problem is the list depends on registered childminders and there is no legal obligation for those minding 3 or less children to register. Those minding more are supposed to but I suspect many don't.
What hours/days are you looking for her to be minded as I know someone who might be interested but it would depend on the hours. She isn't registered but has a lot of experience.

Hi Nancy,

I called & left a message for Una on Monday & also sent her a mail.  No response yet.  I did find a list on the web from Fingal childcare comm. but it only lists creche's etc so I suspect that may be all they will have.

I just feel that for now he would get more one to one attention with a childminder.

I'm planning on returning to work in late Feb 08 and DS will be 10mths.  Hours will be 7.30-5.00/6.00pm at the latest.  We both work in town & will do early/late so we can drop him off as late as possible & pick up as early as possible.  Most likely Mon-Fri but may be Mon-Thurs if I can manage it.

Would be great if that person is interested.

Thanks again
Anacou

I'll pass it on it you and let you know but I think she was looking for more of a part time job, mornings, afterschool etc.
I know the list you mean on the FCCC website but Una is the childminding officer so should hold the details for any registered childminders. I imagine they only put up creches etc as they are business details and already in the public domain but childminders details would be their home/personal details so they don't post them on a public website. Hopefully Una will get back to you soon, she may be on holiday or something.
Have you considered advertising? There are notice boards in supervalu, the Spar by the NIB and lots of shops will put up posters for you. Obviously anyone getting in touch comes without a recommendation but you can interview them and use your own judgement.

Sorry to gatecrash your thread.
I'm looking for a childminder that wouldn't mind being paid by the hour. I am in college and also doing shift work so it wouldn't be a regular 9-5 job or 5 days a week. Anybody know if people would accept this kind of work or am i fooling myself here? Just seems stupid paying for 5 days in a creche when he might be only there a day or 2 some weeks.
Also have no room in the house for an au pair so thats not an option

Hi,

Please see my note above..............I didn't really want to start childminding at home until Jan as I am still on maternity leave but I will if you are still looking.....let me know and we can arrange for you to pop around to my place.  I will be charging 5 per hour.

Hi Lizzie,
I could hold off til Jan. I'm not starting shift work til Dec 31st (great date to start!!!!) so i'm pretty much 9-5 til then so i dont mind keeping ryan in the creche til then.
The only problem is that the roster is only done a week in advance so i would only really be able to give you a weeks notice on how many days or what times you'd have him in a week. Would that be a problem?

Hi

No that's no problem at all.  I won't be able to start until 7th January though as we are away over the xmas I hope that's ok and you can find someone to mind him until then.  In the meantime or nearer the time just give me a call if you want to bring Ryan over also I can provide references but would appreciate it if you could wait until Dec for them as I haven't broken the news to my current boss that I'm not returning to the creche yet I was due back 27th Dec!!
Could you let me know Ryan's age as I would like to start getting some age appropiate toys and activities ready.
Thanks
Lizzie

P.S if you have any other Questions just give me a call or leave a message up here...
