hi all, looking for a bit of help and a couple of tips. my little one is 2yrs 3 mths and im trying to potty train her but it just not happening. no experience of this at all so dont know if im doing it right or wrong all i know is that it is getting a teeny bit stressful. any tips would be appreciated. thanks bid
Hi Bid, I was going to do it with Eoín a while ago but didn't work out.
Here's what most books recommend:
1) over 18 months of age 2) nappy frequently dry after naps or for long periods 3) aware of poos and wees 4) can fllow simple instructions 5) eager to participate in taking off clothes 6) can point to different points of the body 7) has ability to sit still for 5-10 mins
Also make sure you are both ready for it. I was ready a few weeks ago and then Eoín wasn't but things haven't fallen into place for us just yet.
Also a sticker/reward chart is a must have from what I gather, I got a great one in Next for 17 it's magnetic and a great size, will grow with them.
Best of luck, I would imagine if it's not going well then it's not the right time, but keep trying every month until it works. I can also highly recommend the Gina Ford book "Potty training in a week"
hi dors, thanks for al dat.have a couple of books myself but didnt think of a reward system.I'l give that a go and see how we get on.I think we'l give it a break for a couple of weeks and try again. didnt think it was going to be so hard(ignorance been bliss and all that!)
well my little girl has decided (i think) that this is the week for potty training - i wouldn't mind but baby due on friday!! so timing could be better. anyway went to swords today to get potties and book so we are trying but she keeps pulling pants on and off and saying wee wee but nothing happening so maybe i took her up wrong - will see tomorrow. creche said they will help so i've to bring a potty into them tomorrow
well decided to knock it on the head for now as with the new baby it's not the right time to be attempting this - she hasn't been saying wee wee since and she also goes to creche a couple of half days in the week and she is having changes there also moving into the toddler room so they were recommending leaving it for a little while also. of course if she starts to show signs again i'll do the sitting on the toilet thing with her but not push it further rather than ignorning it
