Weaning

Hi guys,

I'm new to the site and was looking for some advice on Weaning. Carla is 17 weeks old this Sunday and I was thinking of trying her with baby rice on the Monday. Shes drinking five 7oz bottles a day at the following times 7am, 11am, 3pm, 7pm & 11pm. According to the books I've been reading (which have me totally confused!), I'm supposed to introduce one meal a day for a week and then two meals into the second week... and so on. Should I still be giving Carla her regular bottle feeds at the same times? Will she start drinking less milk due to her being full from her meals? When do I drop a milk feed? How many ounces of milk is a baby of her age supposed to be drinking before introducing solids and after? I totally apologise for the bombardment of questions but as you've probably guessed, I don't know many new mums and the mums I do know are quite hazy on the details!

Hi!

My dd is 19 wks old and i started her on solids a week ago, so far so good! Sounds like your baby in great routine with the bottles.Continue feeding at the usual times, and try her with solids after 2nd bottle od day to begin with. They still need to take same amount of milk at this stage,  but over few months will gradually reduce amount they take.

I gave baby rice on day 1, did not go down that well( it is vile though!).On day 2 gave pureed carrott and she loved that smile .In last week have also tried stewed apple, pear and butternut sqash, all went down well.

They say on 2nd wk tou can give 2 little meals a day, but i am stickng to the one for another week or so anyway as she is happy with this, but do whatever you feel suits your baby!

The books are confusing, i just have Annabel Karmel now, and it is great for recipe ideas, but wouldn't be following her timetables just yet.It Is great starting them off on food, i love the expression on dd face  when give her something newsmile

Im rambling on here, sorry!Let us know how you get on!
