Aldi plans major mixed-use scheme in Balbriggan: German discount supermarket chain Aldi is about to apply for planning permission to Fingal County Council to build an apartment, office and foodstore development on a 6.27-acre site at Clonard Hill, Balbriggan, Co Dublin.
The chain, which has been an active apartment builder in Ireland in recent years, is proposing the mixed-use development in five blocks. This would include 107 residential units in a mix of 14 one- beds, 69 two-beds and 24 three-beds in blocks which are three to four storeys high.
There would also be 4,542sq m (48,890sq ft) of office space and 2,455sq m (26,425sq ft) of retail made up of a foodstore and four retail units, as well as a crèche.
Aldi is also proposing 466 car-parking spaces: 421 of which are underground; 45 are at podium level; and 77 will serve the food store, 53 the retail units, 155 the offices and 176 the apartments. Access would be off the Clonard Hill Road, which is proposed to be realigned and upgraded with new roundabouts as part of the approved Part VIII Stephenstown to Naul Road.
I love aldi go to Drogheda most weeks to do my shopping in it it is much better than Lidl. Only problem is they tried for plan and permission a few years ago in or around 3 because I was pregnant at the time and there was a sign up for it as well and they were refused permission. I really hope they get it this time. One other problem with it is do we need any more apartments or houses the town is getting bigger and bigger but not enough amenities being built.
