Bored baby

Hi everybody,

I was just wondering if anybody has some idea's on games for one year olds......now the weather is changing I'm finding it hard to keep Hylke entertained all day.  He plays by himself for a short while but gets bored easily it seems, even when I sit and play with him we run out of things to do

does anyone else have this problem?? I sometimes think I lack the imagination needed to keep him stimulated....any tip at all would be very welcome!

Hi Rikkie
We usually dance to music, play chasing and build blocks. I find Eoin loves to have another friend to play with, maybe try to arrange a playdate with someone??

Hi Rikki,

I'm having the same problem with Daniel.  His favourite thing to do is play ball (just throwing a small, soft ball to each other) but obviously we can't do that all day!

I agree with Doreen, maybe organising a play day would be a good idea.  Perhaps we could organise something through the website for the older babies?

What do you think?

Hi Clodagh,

I think it is a great idea.......depending on how many people are interested I would be more than happy to volunteer my home for it! Perhaps we could get everyone who would be interested let us know and also whether they would be willing and able to host or have suggestions for places to go..............rikkie

Hi girls I would be interested but couldn't have more than 3 moms in my apartment - lack of seats!

That'd be great Rikki.  Like I said below, maybe we should keep it for the older babies, say 12 months upwards?

I could have people over here too.

I also have only a humble dwelling and wouldn't be sure what would be a comfortable number. I guess we'll just have to try and see how it all fits and works out. anyway I am prepared to give it a shot.             We have an open plan kitchen living room so would be a nice opportunity for the mums to have a cuppa while the kids can be supervised from the kitchen table      I do think baby's from one year up would be a reasonable guideline for minimum age although I don't like to refuse anybody with a younger baby that may feel the same need.

What will we do next? maybe post a signup list on this website and wait and see or just start with the ones interested now and go from there......what do you girls think?

Hi Rikki,

Hope you don't mind, I moved this post from the General forum to Toddlers because I thought here was more suitable

Hi Clodagh,

After the initial shock of not finding it where I had left it I don't mind at all ofcourse

I was wondering about this idea of getting together with kids over twelve months....am a bit blank on ideas at the moment but is there a way we can get to everybody who might be up for it?

Hi all,

I know im a bit delayed in replying to this but only discovered the forum recently.  I live in Chieftains Way with my partner Barry and my 13 month old son Nathan.  I am pregnant again and due in December and so will be starting my maternity leave around then.  I would like to be able to get to know some people from around the area as when I was on maternity leave with Nathan I found it very lonely and isolating especially because the only people i seen all day were builders!

I would love to meet up with you all as soon as i am off work - all our children all seem to be about the same ages and Nathan would love it. He loves other children.  I am going to get down to the Parent and Child Group in Balbriggan as well as soon as im off so hopefully I will see some of you down there as well.

Look forward to hearing from you soon.

Hi Niamh & Nathan, welcome! Look forward to meeting you soon, congrats on No. 2.

Hey Rikkie how did Hylke enjoy the parent & toddler group, poor Eoin was asleep by the time I got to Supervalu.

That's a pity

It's got me thinking though - maybe we should organise the odd get-together for the weekend.  I know some of the other girls are going back to work soon also.  What does anybody think

That would be great...sometimes I feel like all I do is drag Nathan around the shopping centre at the weekends. It would be lovely for him to meet up with some other toddlers.

Let me know what is decided and i will definately go out of my way to make it.

Thanks again

Yeah certainly up for that I find the weekend long sometimes as most people spend it with their husbands or partners.

Hi all,

Well that is great news so now we have four toddlers and two in the making.....great Niamh, I will have another baby in december myself and Hylke is 13 moths old! We were going to try to get together with older baby's to see how it works out.....you're welcome to drop by. Are you working full time? or is there a particular day in the week that would suit you to meet up? the first one would be at my house, I live in the new haven estate, let us know what you think anyway....

About meeting over the weekends, I'd be up for it if daddy's are allowed as well, wouldn't want him to feel left out now it could be a good idea actually, as it could be a nice alternative to the normal places, activities we do over the weekends.

Hey Dors,

Hylke loved it a bit to much, he was completely hyper, it must have been those chocolate biscuits, he's not used to eating sweet sugary things will go again on friday if the weather allows for it!!

hi all, just came back from holiday and hate the weather here. totally depressed!!!!! home only a few days and we all have a cold. it would be great to meet up especially when weather is bad and do something nice with kids. would be more than happy to have people over. have had three mom's and their six kids here before. my own two had a ball and the other kids seemed to love it. put laurens tents up in sitting room and they played from two till five or so.think they really enjoyed the different toys here. lauren likes that at other peoples houses too.

hardest part was everyone going home. all the kids bar one was crying as they didn't want to go. mine were as bad. if we did it regular maybe wouldn't be like that. lauren is normally grand if kids that regularly come go home.
