Operation Christmas Child

Hi guys,
with Christmas on the way it makes us think what we should buy our little ones. There are so many things out there.

What if each one of us participated in Operation Christmas Child? I think it'd be really nice, now that we are all parents and we are so blessed, maybe we could give a little back?

www.samaritanspurse.ie is the website with all the details. Basically you fill a shoe box with gifts for a certain age group and enclose 3euro for transport and distribution.

If we get a lot of people to do this I will take the responsibility of collecting each box and delivering it to a drop off point.

Boxes need to be ready by November 10th. They go to Belarus, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Ukraine, Armenia, Swaziland, Mozambique, Lesotho and Nepal.

What do you think? it could mean so much to the children who have so little.

I know that there is a similar project for Ireland, if anyone has details of that we could do that instead.
Let me know.

Hi All,

Of course I would love to do this.  I always take a card off the tree in Blanchardstown and buy a child something but this sounds like another good worthy cause and I would be delighted.  I can also drop some boxes off at the weekends if thats of any help.  Let me know where I can drop my box to some evening or weekend.  Do we just pick an age and fill the box ourselves

Five Simple Steps

Please note the closing date to ensure that the boxes get to us in good time.
FOR MORE INFORMATION CALL US ON (01) 294 0222

1 Find an empty medium-size adult shoe box. We reserve the right to split boxes which are too large. Cover the box in Christmas paper making sure that you wrap the lid and box separately.

2 Decide whether your gift will be for a BOY or a GIRL, and which age category.
Print a Boy sticker or Girl sticker (click to print), tick the appropriate box, and stick this to the outside of the lid (on the top right as you would a stamp on a letter). You will need to tape the label to the box.

3 Fill the shoe box with the gifts listed below. Please don’t wrap any items individually or overfill your box.

4 IMPORTANT Please enclose €3 or more in an envelope. Cheques are preferred for security reasons and should be made payable to Samaritan’s Purse. Place the envelope inside the box, but on the top of the gifts so that it is clearly visible when it is opened. (Your €3 goes towards the promotion, transport, processing and distribution costs of running the project).

5 Secure the lid with an elastic band, and do not seal the box as it will need to be checked to ensure it meets customs requirements.

This year’s closing date is Friday November 10th

WHAT TO PUT IN A BOX

Please select from the following YES items:

* A cuddly toy

* A toothbrush, toothpaste

* A bar of soap

* A notepad, colouring book

* Picture books

* Pencils and pens

* A set of crayons or felt pens

* A hat, cap, gloves, scarf or other small clothing items

* A small ball or tennis ball

* A puzzle e.g. small jigsaw

* For boys: a toy car, truck, passenger plane or similar item

*For girls: jewellery (e.g. pair of clip earrings, make-up or hair accessories)

* A greeting card or a photo of yourself

* Sweets (must be well within sell-by date)

WHAT NOT TO PUT IN A BOX

Please do not include items from any of the following categories:

* Other edible items (e.g. crisps, biscuits, tinned food or cake)

* War related items (e.g. toy guns and soldiers, knives)

* Clothing (other than listed above)

* Glass containers, mirrors or fragile items

* Liquids of any type (e.g. blow bubbles, shampoos, bubble bath, toiletry sets or aerosols)

* Marbles or sharp objects

* Medicines

* Books with words

Due to import regulations, all goods should be new or nearly new.

You can download the label for your box from the website. It says children's age ranges are 2-4, 5-9, and 10-14 for both boys and girls.

The local drop off point if you prefer to drop it yourself is the An post, sorting office in Balbriggan.

Let me know if you want me to collect it from you. Or you can bring it to one of the coffee meetings.

I think we could easily get 20 boxes between all of us.

Hi girls, I came across this: http://www.magicmum.com/phpBB/here-vp629046.html#629046

It's a debate about these boxes with some informative links. Sorry for advertising another site but the information is vital and I think that everyone should be given the information.

If you do want to go ahead with the boxes, don't forget that the closing date is november 10th.

Hmmm...

I only quickly glanced through the debate on Magic Mum but, personally, I wouldn't like my gift to come with 'terms and conditions'.  What does anybody else think?

I agree with you but i'm still gonna do a box.I'm sure the chid you dose'nt get a christmas box dose'nt care about my principlesIt's sad there's always an agenda behind peoples motives.This is probably an odd question but I'm doing a box for 10-14 yr old boy.Do I put in a childs or an adults toothbrush
