Have to say that this is a fantastic idea for a site. There are so many parents out there who would find it hard to meet others in the same situation who they can talk to and ask for advice, especially if you are not from the area. I'm from Balbriggan and still find it lonely at times. My son is 4 and a half and starts school next week in st. peter and pauls (where my partner and myself went too, I'm feeling sooo old). I was introduced to the site by "dors" (thank you). Looking forward to chatting to others and making some new friends. Am also a net addict so will probably post or a least log in alot.
I agree, it can be desperately lonely at times, especially when you don't know anybody in the area. Hopefully you'll be able to make it to the next get-together. Keep an eye on the Get-Togethers and Outings section to find out when the next one is.
I have to say well done to Clodagh who has taken the time to get this forum up and running. It is a great idea to be able to chat with people who live locally and have children too.
I have two girls, Sophie is three and Orla is nearly nine months. I look forward to chatting with you and will do my best to offer some good info and hope to meet up soon.
Looking forward to chatting with you too and hearing lots more about Sophie and Orla. Hopefully you can make it to some of the get-togethers. Keep your eye on the GET-TOGETHERS AND OUTINGS section for details of the next ones.
Thanks Clodagh, and in my haste to watch Ali G, I forgot to say thanks to Doreen for telling me about the board!
I just wondered where Templeville is for the new playground? I go to Ardgillan playground most Thursday mornings. It is absolutely brill. Sophie loves it, but I would love her to have friends in Balbriggan that she could enjoy it more with. I work part time, so I am home on Thursdays and Fridays, so I may see yous in the order of Malta some Friday morning soon.
Hi Jen, Welcome! Glad to have you here. Templeville is a housing estate oppsite Ashfied. If you are coming down from Dunnes Stores go straight through the 2 roundabouts and it's the first estate on your right, playground is on the green in front of you then. Might see you in Ardgillan some day.
Just joined this site, Dor let me know of it through rollercoaster, it is great to see a site for Balbriggan, looks like a great site looking forward to chatting to you all.
i have recently moved from scotland to balbriggan and had my first baby boy. i dont know anyone in the area and id really like to meet up with other mums to share experiences, is there any mother and baby groups in the village? i stay in the martello view estate,
Welcome to the board (and to Ireland!) and congratulations on the birth of your baby boy Hope it's all going well and he's not giving you much trouble!
Do you have any other family over here? I always think it must be so hard having your first child without the help of your family. We have other members in the same boat so hopefully you'll get to meet some of them too.
Unfortunately with the summer being so bad we haven't had as many get-togethers as we'd like to have had. Keep watching out Get-togethers & Outings page for future meets.
i think the site is such a great idea! i only have my bf's family over here, they have been great but nothing compensates for ur own mum or nan. where abouts is the malta hall for the breastfeeding clinic? could u tell me any landmarks its close to? do alot of people go to it?
It must be so difficult not having your own mother here. Does she have internet access? My sister's living in Australia at the moment and we use Skype to talk to each other. With the webcam it's like having her in the room - and best of all it's free! It's worth looking into if you don't have it.
To get to the breastfeeding support group, take the next left after the Bracken Court hotel (coming from Drogheda direction). Walk up that road for about 5 minutes until you come to a paint shop. The Order of Malta Hall is directly across the street, beside the school. I found the group a life saver when I was breastfeeding Daniel. They weighed him there and was a great place to meet other mothers. I definitely recommend it!
thanks very much, i am really going to try and get down to the b-feeding clinic this week. i will also look into skype, sum of my mate bk hme hav it and they think its great 2. i was curious, my healthvisitor only came to c me once after dylan was born, is tht the norm here?
Hi yes it seems to be the norm that you only get 1 home visit here. I agree with Clodagh the breastfeeding group is fantastic, I met Clodagh there when Eoín was 3 weeks old and I am still in contact with some others from there. I have BT landline here and it's 35 a month for all local, national and UK landline calls. and extra 10 gets you broad band, I think it's well worth it. If you fancy meeting up on Tuesday we'd love to see you.
Yeah, unfortunately it is the norm here for the health visitor to only visit you once. They will come back again for your child's next developmental exam, which is at three months if I remember correctly. There is a clinic in the health centre (across the road from the order of malta hall) every day from 2pm if you have any concerns with Dylan. Get there early though, cos you can be waiting ages otherwise.
Clodagh
p.s. Love the name Dylan. It's my brother's name and a name I'd love to have given Daniel if my mum hadn't robbed it first
thats so funny bcos my partner and i couldnt decide between dan and dylan 4 ages! i hope that i get to meet ur wee ones soon,
No way!!! Great minds...
Yeah, hopefully we'll all get to meet up soon. The weather's supposed to be nice for September (fingers crossed) so hopefully we'll be able to organise some outings.
I have been informed that a number of mothers meet up twice a week, Cates Cafe on a Friday at 3:30pm and again on Tuesdays at Bracken Court Hotel. I have been trying to find out some information on your website but cant find out any information or if these meeting are still happening. I would really appreciate it if someone could confirm these meetings.
I am a first time mum with a 11wk old son who is very keen to meet up with other mothers.
Hi Clazzer, welcome to the site, good to have you here. I'm not sure if the coffee is still going ahead, we decided it was better to have 1 post stating where and when the meet ups were. A lot of the girls used to go on a Wednesday after the breastfeeding support group, not sure when it moved to a Tuesday. Maybe put up a post asking some one to join you there?
I know some of the girls still meet in Cates Cafe on Friday afternoons at about 3.30pm but I haven't been there in ages. Like Dors suggested, maybe post in the Get-Togethers & Outings page to see if others are interested in meeting up. I'm back at work now, but if the day suited I'd certainly be interested in meeting up!
Hope all is well with you and your little one. Looking forward to hearing from you.
hi jsut to say its great to have somewhereto go talk. am at home all day with a 2 year old who is going through the terrible twos since she was 1!!! have been living in the area for nearly 3 yrs and still dont know any other moms relly. look forward to talking to ye
Good to have you here Bridget. Yeah it can be hard work being at home, work part-time and am always looking to meet new people. If you fancy meeting up you could post it in the Meet-up section. I'd come meet you. Hope to meet you soon.
Hi all, Im new to the area, just moved up in Feb. and i know no one. I got the name of this site in the chemist around at Dunnes. It is so good to be able to chat with other mums in the area. As a mum of 2 under the age of 2 i really appreciate the advice on this site. What a great idea to set this up!!!!!!!!!!
just to let you know all the tabs are gone from the posters in castlenews.....hopefully we will get more on the site now..... and nearly gone in the chemist
Thanks Shelia, I dropped 2 posters over hen I saw your post, they fly out of there, it's good sign I think that people are looking to meet or even chat to others. Hope they join up and log on. Fingers crossed. Thanks for letting us know.
Welcome along Melanie, good to have you with us. If you fancy coming along to any of the parent and toddler groups just give me a shout and I'll meet you. That goes for anyone, I know how daunting it can be trying to meet people.
