Book Club with a Twist

Hi all, was thinking instead of saying a book that SHOULD be read and discussed, I was thinking that we could recommend a book that we enjoyed (author and title) and what type it is (fiction, romance, true life, sci fi or whatever)

hi All,

REally enjoy Jodi Picoult, she writes fiction, deep issues but some of her books have been great, her best (in my opinion) was My Sister's Keeper. Definitely worth a read but since having Isabella (now 14 1/2 weeks) Jodi is proving too deep for my taste and I haven't read anything (except Miriam Stoppard!!!) since Isabella was born.

If you really like chick lit with a total American out of this world slant the Devil Wears Prada is hysterical. It's hard to believe that people like this might exist (and probably do!) in New York. It's just been made into a film starring MEryl Streep but read the book first, it's always better.

Another really good series of light fluff is anything by Sophie Kinsella especially the Shopaholic Series, they are hysterical.

Must have a good think about this, as I work in a library I should know lots of titles!!

See you all at the breast feeding clinic and hopefully the picnic on Thurs,

Laura

Thanks for the suggestions Laura.

I was reading Teri Hatcher "Burnt Toast" but I found it hard to read.

Right now I'm reading Sarah Webb "Some kind of Wonderful" it's an Irish Novel.  Love reading Irish books as they are so easy to relate to.

hi Clodagh,

Do look out for it. i read it when i was pregnant and the emotional bits were almost too much for me to handle. So much so that I couldn't take it into work and had to read it at home!!! I was just super emotional!  This is not to put you off a great book though

Hi,

I've read "Is there anybody out there?" too and I loved it. But it took me about 3 weeks to read it. I'm a great fan of Marian Keyes and would normally devour one of her books in a day or so, but since having a new baby reading is a luxury I don't have much time for anymore!!

I know what you mean Ruth, I usually take tons of books out of the libray at one time and end up renewing them ALL, I mostly fall asleep during the second page! Here's hoping to more time reading.

Oh "Expecting Emily" is a good read too, can't remember the author though.

Oh the Maeve Binchy book "a night of the stars and fire" (I think) - fab read, very real characters and nice to have an exotic setting like Greece.
Am reading Kate Thompson - Sex, Lies and Fairytales. Unputdownable!!!!
Oh both fiction by the way.
Heard an author on 2FM today talking to Ruth Scott about a book call Fashion Babylon it's all about the fashion industry and al the names have been changed but apparently lots of it is true. She also has a book called Air Babylon - all about the airline industry. Author's name was Imogen Edward-Jones. I'll be looking out for both of these.

Am on an Irish buzz at the mo - going to start Sinead Moriarty "The baby trail" Laura told me it's a triology well worth reading. flying through books at the mo - honestly don't know where I'm finding the time!

Have read "the perfect Match" and "From Here to Maternity" so the triology is complete. Sinead Moriarty is most certainly an author and collection of books that I would recommend.  It will have you laughing out loud and the characters are all very real and by the third book they hold a special place in your heart. ***** 5 stars I give it,   Brilliant also considering that the Baby Trial is her first book. She is one to watch.

If you are looking for a good laugh out loud book I can strongly recommend Sophie Kinsella "Can you keep a secret?" It was hilarous and very easy to read.

I'm going to try that one Dors. I haven't read a book in a few weeks and I really miss having a book to wind down with at the end of the day

Thanks
