Just about to venture into making up some dinners for Sean - not sure what to make though, what combinations... bought some fresh veg - the usual suspects - broccoli, cauliflour, carrots - do up some spuds and whip out the awl blender and see how it goes !!

Daniel absolutely loved puréed carrot when I started weaning him, but be careful because it stains badly and nothing gets it out!

They say not to blend potatoes because they go kind of 'gluey'.  I blended them for Daniel before I knew this, and even though they did go very 'gluey', I mixed it with puréed carrot and he still loved it!

Good luck!

I used to find that Eoin loved 2 combinations of things together. Check out the fruit, or breakfast and savouried, all are suitable for first foods unless indicated.

Didn't know that about blending patato either - thanks for the replies, will give the combinations a try, see how we go...

Hi all,

Was just reading through your weaning talk and know it can be tricky to come up with new combinations all the time.....one of my tricks was to go to the shops, check the jars of babyfood and just get some recipe ideas from there. It may sound silly but Hylke loved for example my copy of heinz's vegetable medley with sweet potatoe I hope it helps

Very clever - wouldn't have thought to look at the jars :)

Though, you do see some jars with veg and chicken or pork - did you ever try blending meat?

Also reading there that you can give eggs (once they are properly cooked) from four months - anyone ever tried that ?

Sean didn't care much for the brocoli and cauliflower - so I've bought some sweeter veg - parsnip, butternut squash and sweet patato, gonna try that today see how we go..

Hi Lee,

Have you ever tried boiling the meat? Especially turkey and chicken are suitable for this. In my experience if you boil the meat until it is very tender it doesn't get all sticky when you blend it!

No I haven't tried him on any meat yet, will def give it a go... boil first, must remember that !

Having some trouble getting him to eat any of my home cooking - he's holding onto it all in his mouth like a little hamster and then spitting it all out... clever little thing, but will keep at it - let him get use to these new tastes and textures...

He is enjoying his tea time desserts, apple and pear with some custard or baby rice :)  Bought mango today so will try him on that tommorow - have to remember not to try too much too fast, give him a chance to get use to things :)
